FireShield

About our FireShield bushfire shutters

Extra features for safety and compliance

Utilising our ThermoShield (BAL 29) or AluShield (BAL 40) profiles, Titan's FireShield roller shutters are installed with additional features and capabilities to ensure compliance with Australian fire resistance standards. Such features include UPS battery back-up, manual override ability, and specialised installation procedures with metal conduit and/or fire sealant. These extra measures ensure continuity of operation and enhanced protection in the event of a fire.

BAL 29: about the ThermoShield profile

For areas with a moderate bushfire risk, the ThermoShield roller shutter profile has a heat flux threshold of 29kW/m² for reliable protection against radiant heat, embers and burning debris. Our ThermoShield slat is constructed from strong, high-quality aluminium injected with a polyurethane insulative compound, meaning it also offers benefits like insulation and noise reduction.

BAL 40: about the AluShield profile

Specifically designed for areas with a high risk of bushfires, AluShield slats are made with 100% extruded aluminium and are rated to withstand ember attack, burning debris and radiant heat in excess of 40kW/m². The AluShield slat also acts as an excellent physical barrier against intruders and vandals; thanks to their thick gauge extruded aluminium construction, they are virtually impossible to penetrate.

Easy to use and built to last

Titan’s electric operating system allows you to choose from a switch on the wall, a remote control, or both; and for commercial applications, or where required under regulations, an additional uninterrupted power supply (UPS) can be fitted to ensure operation in the event of a power outage.

Designed to be virtually maintenance free, our strong and durable slats are finished with a long-lasting coating to prevent fading and corrosion.

FAQ

Roller shutters aren’t mandatory just because you live in a bushfire-prone area. However, depending on where you’re building or renovating, a specific BAL (Bushfire Attack Level) rating may be required to meet planning and building approvals. FireShield shutters are an effective way to help achieve those requirements.
If you’re considering shutters for bushfire protection – or because you want the other benefits, such as security, privacy, temperature control, noise reduction and light management – FireShield is well worth considering for homes located in bushfire zones. Our consultants can assess your property and guide you toward the most suitable solution for your situation.

Your required BAL rating is determined by the bushfire overlay that applies to your property.
In Victoria, BAL assessments are carried out in accordance with Australian Standard AS 3959, which evaluates bushfire risk based on factors such as radiant heat exposure, ember attack, flame contact, surrounding vegetation, land slope, and the local Fire Danger Index.
Your building plans or local council documentation will usually specify the BAL rating that applies.

Yes, they can.
In fact, most FireShield installations are completed on existing homes and buildings, rather than during new construction. FireShield shutters are designed to be retrofitted with minimal disruption while still meeting the required bushfire performance standards.

Yes. FireShield shutters can be motorised using Cherubini RX motors and paired with the optional METAHome Gateway. This allows you to operate your shutters through the Cherubini META app on your smartphone or tablet.
When paired with the Gateway, FireShield shutters can also integrate with Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa, giving you voice control and allowing you to utilise the functionality of your existing mart home system.

FireShield shutters are built to be durable and low maintenance. With proper use, very little ongoing upkeep is required.
We provide a care and operation guide with every installation, outlining correct usage and simple cleaning steps. Keeping the shutter tracks clear of debris and periodically cleaning the curtain is usually all that’s needed to maintain reliable performance.

BAL-40 requires shutters to be operable during a power outage. If your system uses a UPS battery backup, it should be tested regularly to ensure it functions as intended. This requirement does not apply to installations using a manual override system, or to BAL-29-rated installations.

FireShield shutters are compatible with both Cherubini and Cherubini RX motor systems.
Your consultant will recommend the most appropriate motor based on your control preferences, compliance requirements, and whether smart operation is planned now or in the future.
Where required, we can also integrate a manual override or UPS battery backup into the FireShield system to enhance safety and ensure BAL-40 compliance.
